National Donut Day

Today is National Do(ugh)nut Day -
as it is the first Friday of every June!

History: In 1917, Salvation Army female volunteers known as “lassies” prepared thousands of fresh donuts to the homesick soldiers that served in France during World War I. National Donut Day was officially established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to raise much-needed funds during the Great Depression.

To celebrate this occasion, some local bakeries and other organizations are giving away FREE donuts! If you're one of the lucky ones and you have a Krispy Kreme store located around your area, stop by because they're giving away a free donut!

Dunkin Donuts is also partaking in this holiday by giving away a "free" donut with the purchase of any beverage!

"I got this donut for FREE! All I had to do was purchase this lousy coffee with it. But besides that, my donut was FREE! Plus I got these pretty rainbow sprinkles, at no extra charge!"
